Currywurst
No trip to Germany would be complete without consuming some world-famous currywurst. I first tried this a few years ago in Berlin when travelling with my sister and have told Ross that it is a must-have while we are in Heidelberg. Strangely, I never came across this on my first trip to Germany back in 2006 but have since learned of its importance in German culture.
Berlin and Hamburg fought over Currywurst for quite some time, each claiming to be the culinary milestone’s birthplace. A currywurst is a hot pork sausage cut into slices, covered in curry sauce and curry powder. And it is a national obsession, eaten as a takeaway or street food all over Germany – and its pretty damn good!
We had one regular currywurst (with extra spice) and one vegan currywurst. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference…
