I have been dreaming of coming to the Black Forest to eat this rich cherry chocolate cake Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte for 20 years!  Yes, 4th form German class!  So here I am in Baden Baden, a spa town in the heart of the Black Forest and it wasn’t until my last day that I managed to get my hands on some Black Forest cake.  There was a queue all the way out the door at this patisserie on new years eve but I waited patiently in the rain to purchase a slice before taking the train to Stuttgart.

It’s creamy, it’s chocolaty and the cherries are soaked in booze – what more could you want in the middle of winter in the Black Forest?
