Pangkalan Bun, is a city in Central Kalimantan province on Borneo in Indonesia. I landed in the tiny airport after a short flight from nearby Surabaya.

Flying over thousands of hectares of rainforest was quite incredible. To me, the rainforest looked vast, however I learned leading up to this trip that over 70% has been wiped out already through deforestation in Borneo.

Pangkalan Bun seems to be just a transit city for travellers heading to Tanjung Puting National Park, but which is essentially what I used it for too. I spent one night in the Arsela Hotel which was clean and had a good restaurant before meeting the rest of my tour group back at the airport the next day to start our 4-Day adventure in the jungle.
