Kaş, Turkey
After a long bus journey from Gallipoli, we finally arrived in Kaş. We checked into our accomodation and head out for some dinner. We found what looked like a nice little local restaurant and ate Kofta and Meze. We’ve really been enjoying the people in Turkey, all so friendly and want to have a laugh (& are absolutely obsessed with Trip Advisor reviews).
We’ve included Kaş in our itineary because we have some extended family here. My Mum’s cousin lived here for a few years and my cousin’s Dad still lives here so we have organised to meet with him and get to know the south of Turkey.
The next day we met up with Yilmaz, our long lost family. We’d never meet in person before, but he embraced us and took us on an adventure, introducing us to all the bars and restaurant owners in the town and telling everyone we shouldn’t pay for anything while we are visiting here. He is such a character! He owned a bar so we spent most afternoons with a drink in hand and eating great food at all the local restaurants.
Walking around the cute little town is great. There are some cool bars and adorable streets lined with pink Bougainvillea flowers. At night everyone seems to hang out and socialising in the main square.
My most memorable day was one our on the ocean. Yilmaz took us out on the boat where we snorkelled over a shipwreck before stopping off at a small island where his friends cooked us one of the best meals we ate in Turkey. Fresh fish on the BBQ, salads and delicious spinach and potato Gözleme. Such an awesome day in the sun.
Three is nothing better than experiencing a new town / city with locals so really cherish this part of our trip.
Just before we left, we went up the mountain. It’s peaceful, and the view is beautiful. In the day, you can watch the paragliders taking off.
