The Amazon & Rurrenabaque

The Amazon & Rurrenabaque

After a 22-hour delay I have finally arrived in Rurrenabaque, I met some really nice people at the airport and have booked on a Pampas Tour into the Amazon with them.  We all went out to dinner together and then to Mosquito Bar which is a really cool little bar made to look like a jungle hut.  I had a few cocktails, Jungle Juice and Mosquito Bite, which I think following my last few days of sickness was not a good idea.

Rurrenabaque is becoming more well-known on the ‘gringo trail’ of South America, but the fact that it is not yet overrun with tourists makes for an even more authentic Bolivian experience.  And I’ve heard from so many travellers that this is the best place to have a great Amazon adventure as the canals are much narrower than entering from the Brazillian side.  Narrow panels = closer to wildlife.

I left for the Pampas Tour the following day. Read about it here: Tour into The Amazon Rainforest

Upon my return to Rurrenabaque after the 4-day tour I continued to spend time with everyone from the tour.  We decided to hire a boat and travel to an island in the middle of one of the larger canal.  Some of the guys swam at a little beach we found and then we decided to take a walk into the bush. where we came across a local tribe.  It was an incredible experience, usually when I’ve visited places like this it has been on a tour.  One of the young boys in the village climbed a tree and collected grapefruit, one of the elders cut them open and offered the halves to us to drink – it was very cool.  Thoroughly enjoyed the day.  We all checked into the same hostel upon our return which had a rooftop balcony.  That night we had a BBQ on the rooftop which was really nice.

The group had decided to book the jungle tour which I was desperate to do but I have been so unwell for over a week I need to fly to La Paz and see a doctor.

I love travelling and try to go 'off the beaten track' as much as possible. I've travelled through out 50+ countries and cannot wait to reach my next target of visiting a total of 100 countries around the world.
